Are strawberries good for blood sugar and cholesterol?
In adults with prediabetes, a daily 2.5-serving dose of strawberries improved blood sugar, total cholesterol and inflammation in a controlled trial. The clearest benefits are in people who already have cardiometabolic risk. Blood pressure was not affected, and a strong effect in fully healthy adults has not been shown.

- What the human evidence shows
- The anchor is a 2025 randomised controlled crossover trial in adults with prediabetes.1 A food-achievable dose — 32 g freeze-dried strawberries, about 2.5 fresh servings, daily for 12 weeks — improved insulin resistance and lowered fasting glucose, HbA1c and total cholesterol against a no-strawberry control, and also reduced high-sensitivity CRP, interleukin-6 and body weight. Separately, a 2023 trial in overweight adults aged 50–65 with mild cognitive decline found a daily strawberry dose improved memory and reduced depressive symptoms.2
- Who it applies to
- The people studied had prediabetes or other cardiometabolic risk — so the benefit is clearest for them, and we rate it as moderate overall rather than strong, because a comparable effect in fully healthy adults has not been demonstrated. Much of the cardiometabolic trial work comes from one research group, which is a limit on independence, though the findings fit the wider berry literature.

- Blood pressure is the clear "no": a rigorous 2025 dose-response analysis found no effect on systolic or diastolic pressure, so we do not claim one. The effects that are real — on glucose, cholesterol and inflammation — are modest, and they come from a whole-fruit serving, not a concentrated extract. Strawberries are a sound part of a heart-healthy pattern, not a treatment that replaces one.
The honest framing: strawberries earn their place as a genuinely useful whole food for people watching blood sugar and cholesterol — eaten as fruit, in normal amounts. They are not a blood-pressure remedy, and there is nothing to buy: we recommend no strawberry supplement or extract, and we sell nothing.

Bottom line for you
If you have prediabetes or raised cardiometabolic risk, strawberries are worth eating: a realistic 2.5-serving-a-day amount improved blood sugar, total cholesterol and inflammation in a controlled trial, and a separate trial linked them to better memory and mood in older adults. Eat them as whole fruit, fresh or frozen.
Keep the claim honest, though. The strongest evidence is in people who already have some risk, the effects are modest, and strawberries do not lower blood pressure. They belong in a heart-healthy pattern alongside the bigger levers — not as a substitute for them. We recommend no strawberry supplement, and we sell nothing.
